Projet
Mob Sci-Dat Factory

About the research centre or Inria department

The Inria Saclay-Île-de-France Research Centre was established in 2008. It has developed as part of the Saclay site in partnership with Paris-Saclay University and with the Institut Polytechnique de Paris . The centre has 40 projects teams, 27 of which operate jointly with Paris-Saclay University and the Institut Polytechnique de Paris; Its activities occupy over 600 people, scientists and research and innovation support staff, including 44 different nationalities.

Context

This research internship is part of a public research partnership within the framework of the PC3 MobSciDat Factory of the MOBIDEC PEPR. It contributes to ongoing research on data science for mobility and privacy protection in digital mobility services. The work is conducted in continuity with the PRIMO research project (https://primoproject.github.io/index_fr.html), which investigates how digital mobility-support tools shape mobility practices and so-called “virtual mobilities”, while raising major challenges related to data collection, processing, governance, and privacy. The internship will take place in collaboration with researchers and engineers from the Laboratoire Ville Mobilité Transport (LVMT) – École des Ponts ParisTech / Université Gustave Eiffel – and will contribute to research activities focusing on mobility data capture, lineage, validity, and compliance with data protection requirements.

Assignment

With the support of the scientific supervisor, the recruited candidate will contribute to the design, development, and evaluation of a methodological framework enabling large-scale, automated analysis of the transparency and coherence of data collection practices in mobile mobility applications. The assignments will notably include: analysing the coherence between declared mobility app functionalities and requested permissions; performing automated analysis of privacy policies to assess their level of transparency, specificity, and alignment with data protection best practices; conducting static analysis of embedded SDKs and technical capabilities, with a particular focus on potential permissionless mobility inference capabilities; designing an interpretable trust score intended to synthesize these analyses into a form understandable by both users and researchers.

For a better understanding of the proposed research topic: A state of the art, bibliography, and scientific references are available at the following URLs; candidates are encouraged to consult them:

Collaboration: The recruited candidate will work closely with members of the Laboratoire Ville Mobilité Transport (LVMT) and with academic partners involved in the PEPR MobSciDat Factory project, who contribute to methodological development and mobility data analysis from a privacy-aware perspective. Responsibilities: The recruited candidate will be responsible for implementing the data processing pipelines (collection, extraction, analysis, and aggregation) and for producing initial scientific results. The candidate will be expected to take initiative to improve the robustness, reproducibility, and transferability of the developed methods. Supervision / Management: The recruited candidate will be responsible for managing the datasets used, maintaining version control of the scripts and software prototypes developed, and
